Would recommend any Villager older than a 1999 when they changed the distributor and other things and changed the car for the worse. While opening and locking doors the remote control was inoperable. The door locks will lock by themselves on many occasions. Recently while changing the oil, I noticed a bolt missing by the exhaust manifold, which oil has been leaking from a gasket. This could have been more of a problem if the other keys were not in close poroximity.
I am utimately afraid of my toddler being locked in a car in key West when it is 90 degrees. Park park facing uphill and jack up front of car too. If a malfunction is detected with either of these assemblies, the assembly must be replaced. I always keep a spare repaired in my garage. Repeated attempts to get repaired by dealer.
Install radiator cap but leave it loose so air can escape. Don't know why you don't have lights on rear panel. You want to get radiator opening higher than top of engine. If it can never tell the computer when it is warmed up, then it will never be able to operate correctly. Over all, it's been a very good vehicle for us! There are 3 tsb's covering this defect, but Ford will not repair the problem at their cost. This did not correct the problem. Also while vehicle is turned off.
This condition presents a serious threat to small children and situations where the car can not be moved when necessary. Also, the bottom of the oil pan had filled up with gunk at about 170,000 miles, and that caused low oil pressure and tapping. They also stated the the vibration when braking would be fixed by turning the front rotors which they did. I drive them because they cannot drive now. I too drive a 97 Villager 84,000 current and have had problems over the years. The Villager's amenities include a comfy interior, quiet ride, fairly good gas mileage and a high seating position for checking out the sparse but weird sites along the way - the valley with hundreds of gigantic electric-generating windmills.
Any ideas what the problem may be? It's attractive, comfortable, quiet and performs well on the highways. Power lock system is defective while vehicle is running or shut down, consumer states locks are inoperable, dealer refuses to replace system and they have not been able to repair it. This problem was corrected by replacing the rotors that they turned the previous day. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed the driver there was not a recall for this vehicle. It usually happens when we are parked but it has also happened when we were driving. It locked our 22 month old in vehicle after child was strapped into car seat and van door was closed. He was going to a job and was traveling when he stated the van lost power, the engine actually turned itself off.
If you push up on the back of the glass a little bit while hitting the switch, what happens. My husband could of been in a serious accident when the engine turned itself off. We have the model with the 4 captain's chairs and sliding back seat. Refer to Section 01-05 for the removal procedure. This minivan is fun to drive. They initially denied a problem. I have a friend with a 1993 Villager that has the same problem.

Bought it new, it has over 190k kms on it and still running strong! There is a more complicated procedure but you need tools and knowledge of where air bleed is on top of engine Jan 03, 2009. Answered on Dec 23, 2017 It's probably the cracked solder joint on the control assembly in the frony. The consumer took the vehicle to the service dealer, and they suggested that he place a fuel injection cleaner in the air filter, which helped, but the problem recurred. But, we just bought our 4th Mercury Villager. . The doors will lock when the keys are in the ignition and a door is shut, when the keys are out of the ignition, when driving over any bumps in the road. I have replaced it 3 times with no success.
