Matters are further complicated by the obvious fact that some of the actors are not at all comfortable with bearing it all, taking the blandly shot scenes and making them all the more dull. They are not exactly masterpieces, but colorful films that were representative of an important trend. As always Eastman stays well clear of any hardcore action, preferring to keep his trousers on during sex, whilst Gemser indulges in purely soft-core fumblings. D'Amato and Shannon -- who once had the reputation of a genuine Italian hunk who can make love to multiple women at once and for as long as needed so that the man behind the camera can get all the right shots — basically do a series of explicit erotic scenes and in between add some cheap quasi-zombie footage that provides the film with its proper horror identity. There's a real old guy with a big lump on his head, and his grand-daughter played by an anorexically thin but still smokin' hot Laura Gemser.
There's a fair bit of gore in the film, some of it quite hardcore, but it's clear that the sex is the main focus. It was followed up by something only relatively more conventional in the House By The Cemetery 1981. In Italian, with printed English subtitles. Gemser was the most beautiful woman here. The director had wanted to move away from the zombie genre but money talks, so it would be that the whims of distributors would eventually shape the unofficial Gates of Hell Trilogy , that begins with this first part. Eastman and Gemser demur from the hardcore activity and the latter is largely superfluous.
Wilson initially dismisses the warning as crazy talk, but after a series of bizarre happenings completely changes his mind. When he arrives, the living dead rise from their graves.
