I just had the inspection done and had to have a new cluster put in. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and the mechanic stated that the speedometer failed. Make sure the connection is plugged in. Not only is it potentially dangerous, but worse: you also have to go through an inconvenient and costly trip to the dealer. I have kids and I travel alot so I think chevy should re-call this soon. Dealer replaced instrument panel cluster, steering shaft and cruise control sensor.

Now melt the solder on one of the solder points, as soon as the solder melts use the solder bulb to quickly suck up the melted solder. The contact had not taken his vehicle to the dealer for repair.

How long will it take to get it back? I have never done that before, but the procedure should be the same, you would mark where the current needle sits at when off with some tape or something, remove and replace the motor, and when you put the needle back on wherever you put it move it counterclockwise until it lines up with the marked spot. We noted the mileage from the odometer and have used that as a basis on when to fill the car. With so many cars with same condition you should fix it. Not only that, but they usually take a long time and offer a very limited warranty — if any at all.
