There were issues in the past with the electrical connections at the back of the multifunction switch. To bmichael5, on mine the intermittant wipers are the only feature that I've never had a problem with, but when mine started blowing defrost only no matter what button I pushed , it was the digital control mod that had gone bad. You can also buy new ones on eBay for around 30 dollars a piece handling included. The dealer advised replacing the relay control module. I paid labor costs and has been diagnosed by Ford as the lighting control module being the problem. You could have a shorted relay if it only happens when you turn your headlights on.
Lights come back on after 5-10 minutes. It only took me 25 … minutes to change, but weeks to figure it out. Here is a diagram if you need to take the assembly out to replace an adjuster. But for sure get them both checked before spending the money. May want to check your dimmer switch, too - it could just be in the off position.
