Not sure what to do next. Since you've got the fully automatic top, there's two parts to putting it up or down manually. My problem is locked inside of itself. You'll need to confirm the top motor is disengaged, if so remove fabric to inspect top linkage. Getting in and out of the back seat was inconvenient. To disengage the convertible roof motors, pull the emergency release lever toward the front of the vehicle. I am having one problem I can't figure out but I think it's an adjustment. After the roof is in the down position, engage the micro switch located on the passenger side lid latch and hold it in place with a weight on the convertible roof lid. Again, it will engage and disengage but not sure how to test if it works.
Given the amount of work involved in manually opening the fully automatic top, I'd be tempted to fix the airbag issue first since it needs fixing anyway, and then move on to other things with the top if it was still non-functional. Both motors are disengaged but will not close manually. Is there any way I can manually open and close the top and still drive it. It requires the use of a rivet gun, but the repair is pretty straightforward and documented in the included instructions. Press and hold the arrow button on top of your key to open the top. I would grab a repair manual. I couldn't run anymore operation tests because it started to rain but I got a pic with it down before it started raining, I'll try to add a pic. I did the emergency top lever and the manual reset on the roll bars. You have to take out the covers hiding them. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open. Nothing moves; The windshield latches do not unlatch. Was it working and then stopped working or have you never seen it work? Has anyone had similar problems when fitting a new roof and is there some adjustment in the mechanism. I assume the plastic sleeve is stripped and or the gear on the pin is stripped although it does not look too bad.
I have to hold the button down to lower the top to stop the light flashing. I removed the back seat and took out all the screws that hold the rear side panels that hold the speakers but they won't budge? A lot of people have problems with their convertible tops. That doesn't mean I'd like to see the 328i become extinct. When I press the button to open the top, the top releases from the windshield, starts retracting and then comes to a stop when it gets to the part when the back should be lifting up. The trick to engage and disengage the motors so that they are correctly syncronized to opening and closing. And still nothing is happening. The back of the top should now fit into the opening under the rear cover. The two hit each other in the opening closing process and I need to adjust. Person I got the car from said the top worked fine. If your convertible roof is not properly working, a simple reset of the roof motors should fix the problem.
